Israel - Beyond the Conflict

The history and the productivity of the Jewish people

We Won't Move From Here

The Jewish people base their claim to the land of Israel on at least four premises:
1) Israel became a state in 1312 BC.
2) God promised the land to the patriarch Abraham;
3) The Jewish people settled and developed the land;
4) The international community granted political sovereignty in Palestine to the Jewish people;
5) The territory was captured in defensive wars.
6) The UN voted for the creation of the state of Israel
7) Jews ruled it for thousands years and maintained a continuous presence for 3300 years.
8) For over 3300 years, Jerusalem was the Jewish capital.
9) Jerusalem is mentioned over 700 times in the Bible.
10) Jews pray facing Jerusalem.
12) The history roots of the Jewish nation is in Israel.
12) The holiest Jewish site in the world and a renowned symbol of Jerusalem's Old City is the Western Wall on the Temple Mount..

Israel - We Won't Move From Here - Shlomi Shabbat (Lyric)

Israel Then and Forever - Everything has started here!

From here, doesn't matter where
We won't move from here
Together we'll stay and perhaps...

From here, when the morning come
I won't be surprise that I'm still here

Everything has started here and will never end
Here we stand again together to pray
Never be alone to collect all the hopes
Tonight we are still allowed to shed a tear

Everything has started here and will never end
Here we stand again together to pray
Never be alone to collect all the hopes
Tonight we are still allowed to shed a tear

From here, I have a little light
If I am still here
It's always a sign that...
Goodness will come
That goodness
G-d has taken
G-d has given
The light of blue and white

Everything has started here and will never end
Here we stand again together to pray
Never be alone to collect all the hopes
Tonight we are still allowed to shed a tear

Everything has started here and will never end
Here we stand again together to pray
Never be alone to collect all the hopes
Tonight we are still allowed to shed a tear

From here, doesn't matter where to....
We won't move from here

Israel and Lebanon Gas Dispute

Massive Leviathan, Tamar Natural Gas Fields Poised to Transform Israel Into Energy Exporter

Israel’s Massive Natural Gas Reserve Discoveries Draw Enemy Eyes

Introduction

Lebanon going according to the old method, that by which were determined in the past most of the sea bounds : Take the point in which situated the border, and appoints stretch a straight line towards one. If one state situated conscience is second, and the coastline passes, generally speaking, conscience to the south, stretch a line that stands to him, i.e., westernizes to the east, and this is the border. According to this method, everything that situated conscience to the head pecked your Shais to Lebanon, and only what belongs from south to the head pecked your Shais to Israel. This is the Lebanese assertion.

Israel, in contrast, bases on method more modern, that acceptable in the current discussions between states on lines of the border are sea. This also the method that by which we will set the sea border between Israel and Jordan and Egypt, and also between Turkey and Syria in their peace agreement in2005. According to this method, the borderline needs to be stands to the exact route of the beach. Inasmuch as that our beach is stretched from southwest to the north east, also in Israel and also in Lebanon, as you know/but that the sea border need to be stretched in the stands him, i.e., in advance pecked north westward.

When stretch the sea border in advance pecked north westward until half of the way to Cyprus, arrive at the water that situated many northward to the head pecked, and even northward to Metulla. This is the base to the assertion that the directories of the gas, that part of them situated westward to Lebanon and not westward to Israel, belong to our economic water.

I.e. : If base on the norms more the up to date, as we know, Israel is right.

Yes.

Future War?

Tamar & Leviathan

The last 2 years have seen blessings bestowed on the State of Israel with the discovery of massive natural gas fields in the Eastern Mediterranean by Texas based Noble Energy & Israeli consortiums. Discoveries within arms reach of the Israeli coast and within our territorial waters. In 2009 the Tamar Israel discovery rippled across energy markets, Tamar discoveries can power 50% of Israel’s energy needs for the next 4 decades.

Now in 2010 a new unbelievably larger reserve named Leviathan may yield massive amounts of natural gas, estimated at possibly twice the size of Tamar! If Leviathan yields, it can transform Israel into a global energy exporter.

The Leviathan natural-gas site off the Haifa shore could be twice the size of the Tamar prospect, the largest gas discovery globally in 2009, and position Israel as a gas exporter in coming years. Today is a day of celebration for all of us. The State of Israel is an energy independent country.

Lebanon & Its Embarrassing, Ugly Islamic Step Child – Hezbollah

Of course, If Israel has it, you can rest assured Hezbollah wants to lay its greedy little Islamofacist hands on it. The exploratory permits licensed to Noble and its partners where these discoveries are being made are clearly off Israeli waters.

The Lebanese know that the messy little country they have thanks to their pals like Syria & Hezbollah will not draw the billions in foreign exploratory & drilling investment needed to tap whatever reserves may be off their own coast. That has not stopped Lebanon jealously eyeing Israel’s new reserves, or Hezbollah from issuing threats. After all, Israel belongs to them as per Hezbollah ‘logic’ – Muslim lands occupied by Zionist invaders!

Hizbullah: Israel’s Gas Belongs to Us

Hizbullah claims that that the natural gas fields recently discovered in the Mediterranean, belong to Lebanon and warned Israel against extracting gas from them.

Lebanese parliamentary speaker Nabih Berri told “AFP”, “Israel is racing to make the case a fait accompli and was quick to present itself as an oil emirate, ignoring the fact that, according to the maps, the deposit extends into Lebanese waters. Lebanon must take immediate action to defend its financial, political, economic and sovereign rights.”

Marine law expert Amir Cohen-Dor of the S. Friedman & Co. told “Globes” that the Dalit and Tamar gas fields are within Israel’s contiguous economic zone, and that under the 1982 UN Law of the Sea Convention, Israel can exploit resources in its economic zone.

Gas War Zone?

Both Hezbollah & the Lebanese Parliament which are today one & the same are getting in on the threats. Make no mistake, this is a threat against infrastructure, pipelines, rigs, shipping and investment needed to tap the reserves that will all be required in the future. The Lebanese have gone so far as to issue veiled war threats..

Lebanese parliamentarians made similar accusations following the discovery of the Tamar and Dalit gas reserves in 2009.

Halami Mussa said, “The area where the seismic survey was carried out is offshore from the coast of Lebanon, between the international border of Palestine and Cyprus.” He utterly ignores the presence of Israel.

The Ministry of National Infrastructures Map of Petroleum Rights shows that the Tamar license, as well the licenses that make up the Leviathan structure are located west and northwest of Haifa, south of the Israel-Lebanese border

Potential for Conflict is Real

With Israeli sovereignty being questioned as usual by Islamists & terrorists, and Lebanon laying absurd claim to Israeli natural gas discoveries the potential for conflict is real. Israeli withdrawals from Lebanon have been certified by the UN, yet that did not stop Hezbollah from launching a war in 2006. The Israeli coastal demarcations are also clear, there is little reason to believe that will stop Hezbollah or its patrons from trying to initiate conflict, terrorism & violence either.

This is part and parcel of the Noble partnership with Israel. Infrastructure - both sea based and land based to process the LNG will need to be patrolled, secured. The State may even be forced into war to secure safe resource extraction.

Lieberman slams Lebanese rejection of borders: 'Hezbollah looking for friction, but we won't give up what is rightfully ours'

Landau added: "The border between us and them has been unequivocally set – this is our legally and professionally-based opinion that will be placed on the table of the UN,"

Peace and even clean burning energy in the Middle East does not come cheap.

The Torah

• Torah in the narrowest sense refers to the first five books of the Bible
• In a broader sense, Torah includes all Jewish law and tradition
• Torah was given to Moses in written form (Ten Commandments) with oral commentary
• The oral component is now written in the Talmud
• There are additional important writings

Torah
The word "Torah" is a tricky one, because it can mean different things in different contexts. In its most limited sense, "Torah" refers to the Five Books of Moses: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. But the word "torah" can also be used to refer to the entire Jewish bible (the body of scripture known to non-Jews as the Old Testament and to Jews as the Tanakh or Written Torah), or in its broadest sense, to the whole body of Jewish law and teachings.

Written Torah (Tanakh - Bible)
To Jews, there is no "Old Testament." The books that Christians call the New Testament are not part of Jewish scripture. The so-called Old Testament is known to us as Written Torah or the Tanakh.

This is a list of the books of Written Torah, in the order in which they appear in Jewish translations, with the Hebrew name of the book, a translation of the Hebrew name (where it is not the same as the English name), and English names of the books (where it is not the same as the Hebrew name). The Hebrew names of the first five books are derived from the first few words of the book. The text of each book is more or less the same in Jewish translations as what you see in Christian bibles, although there are some occasional, slight differences in the numbering of verses and there are some significant differences in the translations.

TORAH (The Law):
* Bereishith (In the beginning...) (Genesis)
* Shemoth (The names...) (Exodus)
* Vayiqra (And He called...) (Leviticus)
* Bamidbar (In the wilderness...) (Numbers)
* Devarim (The words...) (Deuteronomy)

NEVI'IM (The Prophets):
* Yehoshua (Joshua)
* Shoftim (Judges)
* Shmuel (I &II Samuel)
* Melakhim (I & II Kings)
* Yeshayah (Isaiah)
* Yirmyah (Jeremiah)
* Yechezqel (Ezekiel)
* The Twelve (treated as one book)
o Hoshea (Hosea)
o Yoel (Joel)
o Amos
o Ovadyah (Obadiah)
o Yonah (Jonah)
o Mikhah (Micah)
o Nachum
o Chavaqquq (Habbakkuk)
o Tzefanyah (Zephaniah)
o Chaggai
o Zekharyah (Zechariah)
o Malakhi

KETHUVIM (The Writings):
* Tehillim (Psalms)
* Mishlei (Proverbs)
* Iyov (Job)
* Shir Ha-Shirim (Song of Songs)
* Ruth
* Eikhah (Lamentations)
* Qoheleth (the author's name) (Ecclesiastes)
* Esther
* Daniel
* Ezra & Nechemyah (Nehemiah) (treated as one book)
* Divrei Ha-Yamim (The words of the days) (Chronicles)

Written Torah is often referred to as the Tanakh, which is an acrostic of Torah, Nevi'im and Ketuvim.

Torah Scrolls
The scriptures that we use in services are written on parchment scrolls. They are always hand-written, in attractive Hebrew calligraphy with "crowns" (crows-foot-like marks coming up from the upper points) on many of the letters. This style of writing is known as STA"M (an abbreviation for "Sifrei Torah, Tefillin and Mezuzot," which is where you will see that style of writing). For more information about the STA"M alphabet, including illustrations and relevant rules, see Hebrew Alphabet used in writing STA"M.

Yad
You are not supposed to touch the parchment on these scrolls; some say because they are too holy; some say because the parchment, made from animal skins, is a source of ritual defilement; others say because your fingers' sweat has acids that will damage the parchment over time. Instead, you follow the text with a pointer, called a Yad. "Yad" means "hand" in Hebrew, and the pointer usually is in the shape of a hand with a pointing index finger (I always find this incredibly amusing). The scrolls are kept covered with fabric, and often ornamented with silver crowns on the handles of the scrolls and a silver breastplate on the front.

Aron Kodesh
The scrolls are kept in a cabinet in the synagogue called an "ark," as in Ark of the Covenant, not as in Noah's Ark. The words are different and unrelated in Hebrew. Noah's ark (and also the ark that Moses was placed in) are called in Hebrew teyvat (ship). I was taught that the "Ark" of the Covenant and the ark in synagogue are an acrostic of "aron kodesh" (holy cabinet), but others have told me that it is merely an archaic English word derived from the Latin arca (cabinet).

The Torah scrolls that we read from in synagogue are unpointed text, with no vowels or musical notes, so the ability to read a passage from a scroll is a valuable skill, and usually requires substantial advance preparation (reviewing the passage in a text with points). See Hebrew Alphabet for more on pointed and unpointed texts.

Chumash
Jewish scriptures are sometimes bound in a form that corresponds to the division into weekly readings (called parshiyot in Hebrew). Scriptures bound in this way are generally referred to as a chumash. The word "chumash" comes from the Hebrew word meaning five, and refers to the five books of the Torah. Sometimes, a chumash is simply refers to a collection of the five books of the Torah. But often, a chumash contains the entire first five books, divided up by the weekly parshiyot, with the haftarah portion inserted after each week's parshah.
Oral Torah: The Talmud

A Page of TalmudIn addition to the written scriptures we have an "Oral Torah," a tradition explaining what the above scriptures mean and how to interpret them and apply the Laws. Orthodox Jews believe G-d taught the Oral Torah to Moses, and he taught it to others, down to the present day. This tradition was maintained only in oral form until about the 2d century C.E., when the oral law was compiled and written down in a document called the Mishnah.

Over the next few centuries, additional commentaries elaborating on the Mishnah were written down in Jerusalem and Babylon. These additional commentaries are known as the Gemara. The Gemara and the Mishnah together are known as the Talmud. This was completed in the 5th century C.E.

There are actually two Talmuds: the Jerusalem Talmud and the Babylonian Talmud. The Babylonian Talmud is more comprehensive, and is the one most people mean if they just say "the Talmud" without specifying which one.

There have been additional commentaries on the Talmud by such noted Jewish scholars as Rashi and Rambam. Adin Steinsaltz is currently preparing a new edition of the Talmud, with his own commentary supplementing the Mishnah, Gemara, and Rashi commentaries.

The Talmud is not easy to read. It reminds me of someone else's class notes for a college lecture you never attended. There are often gaps in the reasoning where it is assumed that you already know what they are talking about, and concepts are often expressed in a sort of shorthand. Biblical verses that support a teaching are often referenced by only two or three words. The Talmud preserves a variety of views on every issue, and does not always clearly identify which view is the accepted one.

The Mishnah is divided into six sections called sedarim (in English, orders). Each seder contains one or more divisions called masekhtot (in English, tractates). There are 63 masekhtot in the Mishnah. Approximately half of these masekhtot have been addressed in the Talmud. Although these divisions seem to indicate subject matter, it is important to note that the Mishnah and the Talmud engage in quite a bit of free-association, thus widely diverse subjects may be discussed in a seder or masekhtah. Below is the division of the Mishnah into sedarim and masekhtot:

* Zera'im (Seeds), dealing with agricultural laws
o Berakhot
o Peah
o Demai
o Kilayim
o Shebiit
o Terumot
o Maaserot
o Maaser Sheni
o Challah
o Orlah
o Bikkurim

* Mo'ed (Festival), dealing with Shabbat and festivals
o Shabbat
o Erubin
o Pesachim
o Sheqalim
o Yoma
o Sukkah
o Besah
o Rosh Hashanah
o Taanit
o Megillah
o Moed Qatan
o Hagigah

* Nashim (Women), dealing with marriage, divorce and contracts
o Yebamot
o Ketubot
o Nedarim
o Nazir
o Sotah
o Gittin
o Qiddushin

* Nezikin (Damages), dealing with tort laws and other financial laws
o Baba Qamma
o Baba Mesia
o Baba Batra
o Sanhedrin
o Makkot
o Shabuot
o Eduyyot
o Avodah Zarah
o Avot (also known as Pirkei Avot, Ethics of the Fathers)
o Horayot

* Kodashim (Holy Things), dealing with sacrifices and the Temple
o Zevachim

o Negaim
o Parah
o Tohorot
o Miqvaot
o Niddah
o Makhshirin
o Zabim
o Tebul-Yom
o Yadayim
o Uqsin

In recent times, many observant Jews have taken up the practice of studying a page of Talmud every day. This practice, referred to as daf yomi, was started at the First International Congress of the Agudath Yisrael World Movement in August, 1923. Rav Meir Shapiro, the rav of Lublin, Poland, proposed uniting people worldwide through the daily study of a page of Talmud. Daf Yomi is currently in its 11th cycle. A calendar of the cycle can be found at Daf Yomi Calendar.

Other Writings
In addition to these works, we have midrashim, which are basically stories expanding on incidents in the Bible to derive principles or Jewish law or to teach moral lessons. For example, there is a midrash about why Moses wasn't a good speaker (he put coals in his mouth as a child basically as a way of proving that he wasn't greedy), and another one about Abram discovering monotheism and rejecting his father's idolatry (that's a nifty one: basically, he smashes up all his father's idols except the big one, then blames the mess on the big one, as a way of showing his father that the idols don't really have any power). Some of them fill in gaps in the narrative. For example, in Gen. 22:2, why does G-d say, "thy son, thine only son, whom thou lovest, even Isaac." Wouldn't the name alone be enough? One story says that the narrative is skipping out Abraham's responses. "Take thy son." "Which one?" "Thine only son." "But I have two!" "Whom thou lovest." "I love them both!" "Even Isaac." (I'm not sure this is a traditional one -- I got it from a questionable source -- but I like it).

There is also a vast body of responsa, answers to specific questions of Jewish law. Beginning in the middle ages, when local rabbis were faced with difficult issues of Jewish law, they often wrote to the most respected rabbis in the world to get answers to these questions. The local rabbi would present the situation, often including detailed references to the Talmudic passages he had reviewed and his own interpretations of these authorities, and the world-renowned rabbi would provide a reasoned argument in favor of his answer. Over time, these responsa were collected into printed volumes. This tradition continues to the present day, and there are several rabbis in this century who have developed responsa on issues relating to modern technologies. For example, Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, who died in the 1980s, wrote responsa on such diverse topics as the permissibility of cosmetic surgery, the kashering of dishwashers, and artificial insemination. There are literally thousands of volumes of responsa. A project at Bar-Ilan University is compiling these responsa into a computer database. See their website at The Responsa Project for more information.

As you can see, the body of Jewish tradition is very vast. Is there any place to get quick answers? In the middle ages, there were several attempts to create definitive codes of Jewish law. The best-known of these codes are Rambam's Mishneh Torah and Joseph Caro's Shulchan Arukh. In their own time, these works were very controversial, because they did not identify the Torah or Talmudic basis for their opinions and generally ignored conflicting opinions. There was concern that such works would discourage Jews from studying the primary sources: Torah and Talmud. Today, however, these sources are well-respected. In fact, the Shulchan Arukh is often treated as a primary source.

We also have a mystical tradition, known as Kabbalah. The primary written work in the Kabbalistic tradition is the Zohar. Traditionally, rabbis discouraged teaching this material to anyone under the age of 40, because it is too likely to be misinterpreted by anyone without sufficient grounding in the basics.

Israel Boycott?

Why boycott Israel?
Israel has a better human rights record than any other country in the Middle East - It is a fact, see Human Rights in Israel and Elsewhere, especially in Iran. Homosexuals are not hanged in Israel, adulteresses are not stoned, women are not forced to wear veils. There are real elections with more than one candidate.

Arabs and Jews compete for office in these elections. Arabs and Jews serve as cabinet officers and diplomats. The widest variety of opposition views are published in Israeli newspapers.

Israeli Arabs have more rights than Arabs in Saudi Arabia, Egypt or Syria. They can vote, they have the right to judicial redress. Israeli Arab women have more rights than Arab women in any Muslim country.

Boycotting Israel singles out one country for punishment - a country that does not deserve it. Boycotting Israel hurts Israeli and Palestinian students and faculty in Israeli universities.

The boycott Israel campaign is a vicious crusade against peaceful conflict resolution initiated by racist ideologues to promote their own peculiar ideas. They freely admit that they do not want to end the occupation. They want to end the Jewish state!

The boycott of Israel was originated by the Arab League and smacks of the Nazi campaign to boycott Jews in the 1930s.

One need only glance at the following achievements to understand what Israel's universities have contributed to human progress and peace and why it would be wrong to boycott Israel...

* Most laptop of intel-pentium chips created in Israel, including all the laptops you knows.

* Windows XP and Vista, including Microsoft Office, invented by Microsoft Israel.

* All firewalls and Anti-Virus softwares developed in Israel.

* The cellpohne was developed by Motorola Israel, including the camera phone function.

* Voice mail developed in Israel.

* ICQ, MSN, Skype and any other instant messaging system developed in Israel as it started in 1996.

* Google search engine developed in Israel.

* Jewish engineer Robert Adler invented the remote control and it developed in Israel.

* Levi Straus and Jacob Davis, both Jews, invented the blue jeans.

* Drip Watering System for agriculture, developed in Israel.

* Electric Cars developed in Israel. Israel invested millions developing this thechnology and getting procentages, so most of the money is going to fight terrorists group as Hamas and Hezbollah.

* Solar system invented in Israel.

* Tsunami detector invented in Israel.

* If you are terrorist or gangster, do not use weapon systemd that developes in Israel.

ï "Pill Camera" to discover the human body, developed in Israel.

* Do not use Baby Sense system, which is Israeli invention.

And what about science, health and medical tools?

* Two of the world's most widely used FDA-approved multiple-sclerosis drugs, Copaxone and Rebif, were developed from research carried out at Weizmann Institute of Science.

* A revolutionary drug developed by researchers at Bar-Ilan University holds out hope for tens of millions of people around the world who suffer from schizophrenia. Researchers from Tel Aviv University have also invented a drug candidate which holds out promise in this field.

* An award-winning scientist at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev developed a biological control for mosquitoes and black flies that cause malaria and river blindness, saving the sight and lives of millions of people in Africa and China.

* Scientists at Hebrew University of Jerusalem have developed the FDA-approved drug Exelon for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and dementia, and are now working on a new anti-Alzheimer's drug also suitable for treating strokes and traumatic brain injuries.

* Velcade, an effective new cancer drug that treats multiple myeloma, is based on research by two Technion-Israel Institute of Technology professors. The pair won the 2004 Nobel Prize for Chemistry for their groundbreaking work.

* Scientists at Tel Aviv University developed BioPetroClean, a safe environmentally-friendly technology for cleaning oil spills in seas around the globe.?

* University of Haifa researchers working as part of an international cooperative team, identified the gene capable of increasing the protein content of wheat-- a giant step towards combating world hunger.?

* Research by a professor at the Weizmann Institute has led to the development of promising new therapies for acute spinal cord injuries. The late actor Christopher Reeve described Israel as the 'world-center' for research on paralysis treatment. Proneuron Biotechnologies, the company founded to commercialize this research is also developing a therapy for Parkinson's with support from the Michael J. Fox Foundation.?

* A team from the Weizmann Institute has demonstrated for the first time how tissues transplanted from pig embryos might, in the future, be able to induce the human body to produce blood-clotting proteins for hemophilia patients.?

* An Israeli scientific team from the Technion has succeeded in creating in the laboratory beating heart tissue from human embryonic stem cells.?

* Researchers at the Hebrew University and the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge have isolated the protein that triggers stress in order to try to treat post-traumatic stress syndrome.?

* A team of Jewish and Arab Israeli genetic researchers from Ben-Gurion University and Soroka Medical Center has identified a genetic defect that causes a severe neurodegenerative disease in Bedouin children, resulting in premature death.?

* A researcher at Ben Gurion University has succeeded in creating human monoclonal antibodies which can neutralize the highly contagious small-pox virus without inducing the dangerous side effects of the existing vaccine.?

* A Hebrew University doctoral student has developed an innovative drug that gives people the feeling of satiety, an important development in treatment of the obese.

The achievements do not stop there, but that doesn't stop those who want to boycott Israel. Israel is the 100th smallest country in the world, but many of the world's best technologies were invented here, much of the groundwork laid by whiz-kids from Israel's universities.

* The Pentium NMX Chip was designed at Intel in Israel. Both the Pentium 4 microprocessor and the Centrum processor were designed, developed and produced in Israel, as was voice mail.?

* Most of Windows operating systems was developed by Microsoft-Israel, as was voice mail technology.?

* Both Microsoft and Cisco built their only R&D facilities outside the US in Israel, attracted by the high quality of engineers.?

* Much of the world's security in the fields of computers, banking, and homeland security rests on Israeli inventiveness -- a necessary by-product of the years spent defending the country from terrorism and war. An Israeli company, for example, is now working on software that would prevent the kind of repeat bombings seen on the London Underground. The company wishes to complete its research in the UK, but will be unable to because of the boycott.

And the list is still much longer...

Now, go and buy as much computer products, thechnology systems, medication or medical tools that developed by Palestinians or Muslims in general and as you can find !

You may think twice if you want to boycott Israel and to go backward to the stone age, riding on camels and dobkeys.

Smile... and enjoy Israeli/Jewish products.

What Does The Koran Say About Israel?

People assume that the Koran (Qar'an - Muslim holy scriptures) has anti-Israel passages. While there is no doubt some level of anti-Jewish sentiment in the Koran, there are many passages that are actually in support of a Jewish state of Israel! The following are eleven passages showing the support for a Jewish state in the Muslim holy scriptures.

Sura 2:190
A case could even be made that Israel's victory over the Arabs in the 1948 war was a judgment by Allah against the Arabs for their apostasy in opposing the Zionists. This would be their just reward for transgressing Sura 2:190, which says, "Fight in the way of Allah against those who fight against you, but begin not hostilities."

Sura 5:21
Moses is quoted as telling the Jews to "enter into the Holy Land which Allah has assigned to you". While Mohammed later condemns the Jews for their sins and their refusal to accept his message, he never says that, as punishment, Allah has revoked our title to the Holy Land. Therefore the title still stands, and Muslim anti- Zionists are apostates.

Sura 9:5
"Then when the Sacred Months have passed, kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, and capture them and besiege them, and prepare for them each and every ambush. But if they repent and observe the Islamic lifestyle, then leave their way free. Verily, Allah is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful." - Does this sound like a peaceful religion to you?

Sura 10:93-94
"We settled the Children of Israel in a beautiful dwelling-place...If thou wert in doubt as to what We have revealed unto thee, then ask those who have been reading the Book from before thee" - In case you had any doubts about whether the Koran talks about the Jews' right to live in the land of Israel.

Sura 16:126
"If ye punish, then punish with the like of that wherewith ye were afflicted." Yet Ariel Sharon's nonviolent, if provocative, visit to the Temple Mount was met with rioting, including the use of firebombs and AK-47's.

Sura 17:4
"And We [Allah] gave (clear) warning to the children of Israel in the Book, that twice would they do mischief on the earth and be elated with mighty arrogance (and twice would they be punished)!" The succeeding verses tell us that the punishment referred to was banishment from the land. But "twice" means twice, not three times; hence the Jews, having been banished from the land once by the Babylonians and a second time by Rome, will never again be banished from the land. According to the Koran, Israel is an eternal nation.

Moreover, "twice would they do mischief on the earth" means twice, not three times; hence the Jews will never again do mischief on the earth. In particular, the Jews cannot bear moral responsibility for the Palestinian refugee problem.

Sura 17:7
The Palestinians deny that there ever was a Jewish Temple in Jerusalem. But Sura 17:7 records the destruction of the First Temple by Babylon and the Second Temple by Rome, and Mohammed never contests the Bible's claim that the Temples were in Jerusalem.

Sura 17:104
The Jews' return from 19 centuries of exile is actually the fulfillment of Islamic prophecy. Sura 17:104 says that 'And we said to the Children of Israel afterwords, "Go live into this land. When the final prophecy comes to pass, we will summon you all in one group."'

Sura 60:9
Moreover, Sura 60:9 forbids aiding the enemies of the Muslim people. Contrast this with the Palestinians' continued support of Saddam Hussein, whose hands are red with the blood of Iranian, Kurdish, and Kuwaiti Muslims.

Sura 83:1
"Woe to those that deal in fraud"; yet Yasir Arafat reneged on his promise to guard Joseph's Tomb in Nablus after the Israeli troops withdrew.

How Do You Destroy the Jews?

Not an easy task.

The powerful Pharoah tried it and failed. Even ten plagues were not enough to convince him to stop. Nebuchadnezzer, king of Babylon, gave it a shot. And, of course, Antiochus Epiphanes, the king of Syria, failed in his attempt, resulting in the celebration of Chanukah. Then there was the Roman army in the first century and the Crusaders in the 11th century, just to name a few more.

There were expulsions of Jews from England in 1290, France in 1306 and 1394, Hungary in 1349, Austria in 1421, Germany in the 14th and 16th centuries, Lithuania in 1445, Spain in 1492, Portugal in 1497, Bohemia and Moravia in 1744, among others. And throughout history there have been numerous pogroms, mass killings, threats, etc., etc.

Only 3 years after the closest attempt at total Jewish annihilation in the Halocaust, where two out of every three Jewish babies, teenagers, adults and elderly were given a bullet in the head, purposeful starvation, disease, burial alive/dead in a pit with fellow Jewish townspeople or gas chambers, one would think the world would put the idea of Jewish destruction to rest, at least for a while.

No way! Hence, another opportunity arose. Put the Jews into a barren little place that is "unreal" or "is real" (sic), which no one really wants.......except them. Every one of the countries surrounding this barren wasteland hates Jews with a passion, because it is part of their bible. So, either the cruel desert will kill them or the Arabs will. Only this time, the Europeans won't have to lend a "bloody" hand.

Europe certainly knew that after a Jewish state was declared, all surrounding Arab countries would attack the army-less Jews immediately. Survival would be impossible, just through sheer numbers.

In fact, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Saudi Arabia invaded this pathetic group of already emaciated Jews struggling for survival. Azzam Pasha, secretary general of the Arab League boldly declared, "This will be a war of extermination." Guess what Azzam? This ragtag group with their primitive weapons, claiming to have God on their side, wiped out those big, "brave" Arab warriors.

Europe, still washing the Jewish blood off its hands from WWII, and cleaning burnt flesh from underneath their fingernails, did not lend Israel a helping hand. Since giving them an easily targeted state was not working, the world had to come up with a new "final solution" for the Jewish problem.

This would begin as an idea called the Arab-Israeli dispute, which would mysteriously metastasize as a cause that every European socialist and leftist elite professor throughout the world could join to oppose Jews.. the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

The "Palestinian cause" is Europe's way of clearing their consciences of culpability from WWII genocide. If the Europeans can show that the Jews are really bad guys anyway, and indeed, are committing their own form of genocide against the poor, defenseless Palestinians, then their own actions during WWII weren't really so objectionable. By continuing to recognize Yasser Arafat as the leader who is persecuted by those "bad" Jews, Europe today believes they are wiping away their own guilt and blood stained hands.

Most of the world, through the UN, agreed to give the Jews this tiny piece of real estate, probably realizing that it would eventually be destroyed or eaten up by bad neighbors. Thus allowing Europe to sweep its responsibility for The Holocaust quickly under the rug.

Not so fast. Those damn Jews just will not listen to the odds. 1948, 1956, 1967, 1973, bigger weapons, more wars and the Jews refuse to lie down, creating even greater defeats and embarrassment for the macho Arab nations. So a new Jewish extermination plot arose.

Since Jews miraculously cannot be defeated by conventional means, we will destroy them from within through a new 21st century phenomenon called "Identity Theft;" thereby confusing and muddying the Jewish identity and historic relationship with its homeland of 3,500 years.

Enter master terrorist Yasser Arafat who began his crusade in 1964 with a totally new strategy. Since he could not steal the word Jew, he successfully confiscated the term that early Zionists used extensively for the Jewish homeland and Jewish inhabitants of Israel...Palestinian/Palestine. With his newly captured "brand identity" now giving him credibility and history, Arafat would now attempt to infiltrate the land by fraudulently claiming historical ties. Even his own Egyptian birth has been changed. And they say Jews are smart.

Diluting the Jewish brand from the Jewish idea of Palestine is the 21st century equivalent of "Zyklon B" for the Jewish people and Israel. The term "Palestinian" unconditionally belongs to Jews, as described in all of Theodore Herzl's works. Unless Jews recapture it, Israel will eventually become a giant gas chamber for Jewish inhabitants.

The only reason that most Arabs moved to Palestine was because Jews were building it up again for 2 centuries in anticipation of a return to this homeland. The Palestinian cause is the world's latest attempt to destroy the Jewish people and is probably the most dangerous in Jewish history.

Gas chambers are immediate proof of death with obvious smoke, smells and ashes. "Identity Theft" is done silently, eating away at your total being like cancer. And suddenly, it is too late. Ask anyone who has been a victim of this new, high tech lynching. Unfortunately, most of those so-called smart Jewish leaders in Israel do not even understand the problem. This form of marketing and public relations has always been Israel's Achilles' heel.

Let's hope Israel wake up before it's too late.

Lies About the Talmud

Anti-Talmud accusations have a long history dating back to the 13th century when the associates of the Inquisition attempted to defame Jews and their religion. The early material compiled by hateful preachers like Raymond Martini and Nicholas Donin remain the basis of all subsequent accusations against the Talmud. Most are false and based on quotations taken out of context, and some are total fabrications.

Antisemites such as Van Hyning, Nesta Webster, Benjamin H. Freedman and Wesley Swift have claimed that the Talmud has been systematically hidden from non-Jews, and that it is the supreme authority of Jewish law, philosophy and ethics.

In truth, it is available in most good public libraries and most Jews regard it as simply one branch of Jewish theology, of limited interest outside of rabbinical seminaries.

The Talmud consists of two parts: the Mishnah, and its commentary, the Gemara.

The Mishnah, compiled and edited by Judah Hanasi about 200 C.E., was the first Jewish code of laws since the Torah. There are two Gemaras, known as the Babylonian and Jerusalem. The former, completed about 500 C.E., is the record of the discussions of the Jewish scholars which sat in "Palestine", Jerusalem.

Van Hyningís leaflet was widely reprinted, excerpted, added to and quoted from or referenced throughout the 1950s and 1960s by such publications as The Cross and the Flag, Common Sense, and Thunderbolt.

In the early 1970s the Rev. Gerald L.K. Smith continued to distribute a free tract quoting most of these lies. Rarely quoted today, these fabrications continue to be the foundation of many claims that Judaism is anti-Christian.

On the internet today we can find many of these old accusations being rehashed, these are some of the biggest fabrications:

ACCUSATION
Kelhubath (11a-11b): "When a grown up man has intercourse with a little girl it is nothing, for when the girl is less than three years old it is as if one puts the finger into the eye tears come to the eye again and again, so does virginity come back to the little girl three years old."

FACT
This is probably the biggest LIE in the whole list. The words are correctly quoted but completely out of context.
This passage is a discussion of the penalties and consequences of adult-child sexual relations. The following paragraphs continue to discuss this issue. The discussion is about how the criminal should be punished and about the girl not to lose her virginity cause the crime. She will consider likwe a virgin also if she is no longer virgin.

ACCUSATION
"The Talmud refers to Jesus Christ as the bastard son of a harlot (Kallah, 1b, 18b)"

FACT
Kallah, 1b, 18b. The quotation does not exist in this volume. This is a complete fabrication, and even the reference numbers are fabricated.

ACCUSATION
(Zohar, III, 282):
The Talmud teaches that Jesus died like a beast and was buried in that 'dirt heap'...where they throw the dead bodies of dogs and asses and where the sons of Ssau (the Christians) and of Ismael (the Muslims), also Jesus and Mohammed, uncircumsized and unclean like dead dogs are buried.

FACT
This entire "quotation" is a complete fabrication.
Zohar, III, 282. This is a cabalistic work that came into being during the Middle Ages [13th c.]. It is not a part of the Talmud. It is not a part of the Talmud. The Zohar contains all the spiritual states that people experience as their souls evolve. To those without spiritual attainment, The Zohar reads like a collection of allegories and legends that can be interpreted and perceived differently by each individual.

ACCUSATION
(Kerithuth, 6b, p. 78):
"One of the basic doctrines of the Talmud is that all non-Talmudists rank as non-humans, that they are not like men, but beasts.

FACT
Kerithuth, 6b, p. 78. Even the numbering system is a fabrication. 6b means page 6, side 2. Consequently, page 78 can have no relationship to 6b.

ACCUSATION
"The following quotation from and about the Talmud should be of interest to all Christians. Note: 'GOY' means non-Jews; 'GOYIM' is plural for Goy." "Jehovah Himself studies the Talmud standing, he has such respect for that book (Tract Mechilla)."

FACT
Tract Mechilla. No such book exists in the Talmud! Furthermore, the internal evidence in the alleged quotation suggests crude fabrication. The Talmud is not "that book"; it is a collection of volumes.

ACCUSATION
Libbre David 37:
"To communicate anything to a goy about our religious relations would be equal to the killing of all Jews, for if the goyim knew what we teach about them they would kill us openly."

FACT
Libbre David 37. This is a complete fabrication. No such book exists in the Talmud or in the entire Jewish literature.

ACCUSATION
Baba Mecia 114-6:
"The Jews are human beings, but the nations of the world are not human beings but beasts."

FACT
Baba Mecia 114-6. This quotation is a complete fabrication. Even the numbering is incorrect. There can be no 114-6; it has to be 114a or 114b.

ACCUSATION
Midrash Talpioth, 225-L:
"Jehovah created the non-Jew in human form so that the Jew would not have to be served by beasts. The non-Jew is consequently an animal in human form, and condemned to serve the Jew day and night."

FACT
Midrash Talpioth, 225-L. This is not a volume of the Talmud. It is something composed by a Turkish Jew in the 18th century. His name was Elijah ben Solomom Abraham, ha-Kohen, and this book is not study in any parameter and rejected by the Jewish scholars.

ACCUSATION
Schulchan Aruch, Choszen Hamiszpat 348:
"A Jew may rob a goy--that is, he may cheat him in a bill, if unlikely to be perceived by him."

FACT
Schulchan Aruch, Choszen Hamiszpat 348. This is not a part of the Talmud. It is actually a part of a collection of Biblical commentaries in the sixteenth century. The actual text in this volume says that it is forbidden to steal even a small item from a Jew or non-Jew, from children or from adults, as the Torah command us "you shall not steal..."

Khazar Jews

Why Khazaric fairy tales are proven lies?

It must be said that Genetics is the most advanced and undeniable source for ethnic research as it is the most precise science.

Eight Main Facts:

1. All Jewish groups from India, Yemeni to Polish or Spanish Jews have similar haplogroup frequency.

If we imagine that somehow Ashkenazi Jews are Khazarian converts then their haplogroup distribution couldn't match the haplogroup distribution and frequencies of Moroccon Jews. All Jewish groups have identical frequencies of identical haplogroups proving that they do represent one ethnic group with common origin.

If the origin of one part of the group is Khazarian than the origin of the rest have to be Khazarian, too. However it's historical nonsense to claim that for example Tunesian Jews could have any Khazarian ancestors.

2. Samaritans:
Genetic studies of Israelite Samaritans by Shen 2004 proved that the genetics of Samaritans clusters with all Jewish groups while are having huge differences with their long time host people, ''Palestinian'' Arabs. Ashkenazi Jews are genetically identical in populational distance from Samaritans as well as Sepharadic Jews.

For the Y-chromosome, all Jewish groups are closely related to each other. They do not differ significantly from Samaritans (0.041) and Druze (0.033), but are different from Palestinians (0.163) and Africans (0.219).

Nevertheless, the Samaritan and Jewish Y-chromosomes have a much greater affinity than do those of the Samaritans and their geographical neighbors, the "Palestinians".

3. Jewish haplogroups 50% J, 20% E1b1b1c:
Does not exist among any nation outside Middle East. Isolated populations with high J (South Europeans mixed with Middle Eastern) do not have J above 30% while population with high E1b1b1c outside middle east do not have high J.

4. Religious nonsense:
From the late 1st and early 2nd century mass conversions to Judaism are forbidden by Halacaha therefore it's widely unimaginable that after this time such conversions happened on a mass scale.

5. Historical nonsense:
Jewish communities existed in Europe centuries before the alleged Khazar conversion.

6. Yiddish:
Any language has to share characteristics with common languages. Therefore, if Ashkenazi Jews would have originated from the Khazars, Yiddish would surely have some Turkic elements in common with the environment from whence it came.

However, Yiddish which is known to be spoken from VIII century CE, doesn't have any Turkic elements. It's highly influenced by German-Hebrew and Aramaic languages but not a single word is originating from Turkic languages.

7. Culture of Khazars:
If any Jews were Khazars they couldn't somehow forget their roots. Some cultural traditional expresions from Khazar people will somehow have to be present in traditions of Ashkenazi Jews which would represent similarities with other Turkic people.

Also, Jews kept traditional Judaism for 3500 years.
However no such tradition or custom exist: folk dance, beliefs, rituals etc.

8. Jewish emigration to East Europe - Poland and Russia en masse is well documented from IX century as happening from the WEST and not from the EAST, as proven by numerous historians.

Summary:
8.500.000 are Askenazi Jews while the rest are considered Mizrachi and Sepharadic Jews. While they are the majority of Jews in the Diaspora, they are a minority of Jews in Israel where the Mizrachi and Sepharadi are dominant.

While Khazar mythologists and anti-Semites were not able to spread their theories to non Askhenazi Jews and to deny their Israelite origin, the genetic research mentioned is focused on Ashkenazi Jews.

It was first publicly proposed in a lecture given by Ernest Renan in 1883, entitled "Judaism as a Race and as Religion." It was repeated in articles in The Dearborn Independent in 1923 and 1925, and popularized by racial theorist Lothrop Stoddard in 1926.

CONCLUSIONS:
The main ethnic element of Ashkenazim (German and Eastern European Jews), Sephardim (Spanish and Portuguese Jews), Mizrakhim (Middle Eastern Jews), Juhurim (Mountain Jews of the Caucasus), Italqim (Italian Jews), and most other modern Jewish populations of the world is Israelite.

THE ISRAELITE ORIGIN OF ASKHENAZI JEWS IS 87.5% AND MIZRACHI JEWS 98%:
One of the highest percentages of genetic uniformity and ancestral genes among any nation worldwide.
THE ISRAELITE ORIGIN OF ASKHENAZI JEWS IS 87.5% AND MIZRACHI JEWS (ALMOST TOTALLY) is one of the highest percentage of genetic uniformity and ancestors genes hereditament among any nation worldwide.

MAIN FACT:
Even if most Khazars converted to Judaism (and they didnít) they would have attributed to less than 12% of Ashkenazi Jews and the FACT is the Khazars were only 2% of the 3.000.000 Jews in the 8th century.

Knowing the makeup of Israeli population, we can say that Israeli Jews are absolutely Israelites of today.

Something to think about:
Besides Judaism, other religions practiced in areas ruled by the Khazars included Greek Orthodox, Nestorian, and Monophysite Christianity, Zoroastrianism as well as Norse, Finnic, and Slavic cults.

The Khazar government tolerated a wide array of religious practices within the Khaganate.
Many Khazars reportedly were converts to ISLAM and CHRISTIANITY

SO ACTUALLY, THE ENTIRE WORLD IS KHAZAR!!!

An Open Letter to Israel Prime minister

Dear Prime Minister,

If Israel's best young men and women must die, at least let them die defending a proud Nation... not a Nation groveling at the feet of murderers. Re-ignite the spirit of King David rather than that of the defenseless ghetto Jew. Be merciless on the Arab enemy who feeds off the carcasses of dead Jews. There are NO "bridges for peace." They disappeared long ago... right after Hagar and Sarah realized there wasn't enough of Abraham to go around!

The Arab enemy has chosen the terms of engagement. We want to live... they want us to die. That concept SHOULD be simple enough to grasp. The "Palestinians" are historical nobodies yet you have foolishly given them legitimacy. The world will not miss one single Arab "Palestinian." They have given the civilized world nothing but long lines at airport security checks. So why are you suddenly taking up their cause?

May I suggest that you take a walk through the Mt. Herzl Military Cemetery in Jerusalem where we took these photos. Look for the grave of that beloved Jewish soldier and try to convince his parents that the Arabs truly seek peace. And one more thing, Dear Prime minister, Wipe that silly smile off your face when you go there!

Why so many Jews have such an inexplicable urge to be loved by the world to the point of sacrificing themselves to minimize harm to enemy civilians or their olive trees?

It can only be called madness!

They twist normal self-preservation to show the world that they are better and DEADER than their enemies.

Unfortunately, by asking the Israel soldier not to sink to his enemy's level, he ends up sinking six feet BELOW his enemy's level! All in hopes of being admired by the world and his enemies.... posthumously, of course!

If there are still some Jews so riddled with some sort of ageless ghetto mentality wishing to lay down THEIR OWN lives so that their enemy's "civilians" might live, that's just fine with us.

And the sooner we Jews rid ourselves of these sick Jewish types, the better!

But when these same Jews happen to be the leaders of Israel or I.D.F. commanders, THEN Israel surely has a problem... And THAT problem is the running out of Jewish soldiers!

The Arabs are fighting Israel and now Israel must fight like a real army!

If Israel could in 1967 defeat the combined Egyptian, Jordanian and Syrian Armies in just six days, surely today's more powerful Israel Army could deal a death blow to the Palestinian Arabs in just six HOURS!

And THIS time, throw them out and KEEP THEM OUT!

No End in Sight...

While Israel continues to participate in one make-believe "Peace Process" after the other after the other after the other after the other...

Mothers water their sons' graves while cemetery workers will prepare new ones until the Israeli politicians finally
'Gets It."

This was written during the frightening prime ministership of Ehud Barak, during which he nearly gave away the 'whole store' for peace. Thank G-d Arafat once again saved Israel from herself by refusing his offer which may have been nearly 100% of his 'demands"... but not 100% of them! These words could just as easily have been written during the present Ariel Sharon prime ministership or ANY future one that thinks the Arabs will ever stop murdering Jews.

Masada 2000

Zionism

Zionism is the Jewish national movement of rebirth and renewal in the land of Israel - the historical birthplace of the Jewish people. The yearning to return to Zion, the biblical term for both the Land of Israel and Jerusalem, has been the cornerstone of Jewish religious life since the Jewish exile from the land two thousand years ago, and is embedded in Jewish prayer, ritual, literature and culture.

Modern Zionism emerged in the late 19th century in response to the violent persecution of Jews in Eastern Europe, anti-Semitism in Western Europe. Modern Zionism fused the ancient Jewish biblical and historical ties to the ancestral homeland with the modern concept of nationalism into a vision of establishing a modern Jewish state in the land of Israel.

The "father" of modern Zionism, Austrian journalist Theodor Herzl, consolidated various strands of Zionist thought into an organized political movement, advocating for international recognition of a "Jewish state" and encouraging Jewish immigration to build the land.

Today, decades after the actual founding of a Jewish state, Zionism continues to be the guiding nationalist movement of the majority of Jews around the world who believe in, support and identify with the State of Israel. Zionism, the national aspiration of the Jewish people to a homeland, is to the Jewish people what the liberation movements of Africa and Asia have been to their peoples.

History has demonstrated the need to ensure Jewish security through such a homeland. The re-establishment of Jewish independence in Israel, after centuries of struggle to overcome foreign conquest and exile, is a vindication of the fundamental concepts of the equality of nations and of self-determination. To question the Jewish people's right to national existence and freedom is not only to deny to the Jewish people the right accorded to every other people on this globe, but it is also to deny the central precepts of the United Nations.

The Yellow David Star

The oldest reference to using mandatory articles of Yellow Star on clothing to identify and distinguish Jews from the rest of society was in 807 CE. In this year, Abbassid caliph Haroun al-Raschid ordered all Jews to wear a yellow belt and a tall, cone-like hat.

The first reference to a Jewish badge during the Nazi era was made by the German Zionist leader, Robert Weltsch. During the Nazi declared boycott upon Jewish stores on April 1, 1933, yellow Stars of David were painted on windows. In reaction to this, Weltsch wrote an article entitled "Tragt ihn mit Stolz, den gelben Fleck" ("Wear the Yellow Badge with Pride") which was published on April 4, 1933. At this time, Jewish badges had yet even to be discussed among the top Nazis.

Reinhard Heydrich recommended that the Jews be forced to wear badges following the Kristallnacht pogrom in November 1938. The German government first introduced mandatory badges in Poland in November 1939. Jews who failed to wear them risked death. On July 26, 1941, the Judenrat (Jewish Community Council) of Bialystok announced that "the authorities have warned that severe punishment — up to, and including death by shooting — is in store for Jews who do not wear the yellow badge on back and front."

The German government's policy of forcing Jews to wear badges, and then confining all who wore them to ghettos, was a tactic aimed at isolating the Jews from the rest of the population. It enabled the German government to identify, concentrate, deprive, starve, and ultimately murder the Jews of Europe under its control. In 1942, Helmut Knochen, the German government's chief of the Security Service and the Security Police for occupied France and Belgium, stated that the yellow badge was "another step on the road to the Final Solution."

This policy was a part of what the Germans euphemistically called the "Special Treatment" of the Jews. Under this "Special Treatment," the Jews also endured:

1) A consistent propaganda campaign labeling them as the embodiment of evil and the misfortune of German society.

2) The revoking of all their rights of citizenship.

3) The confiscation of their property and businesses.

4) Their removal from jobs, schools, professions, and all social and professional intercourse with the rest of society.

These measures culminated in the Final Solution:
1) Mass murder in various localities under German control.

2) Deportation of all remaining Jews to concentration and death camps.

3) Death in gas chambers built especially for the Jews.

The Ten Commandments

The Ten Commandments, or Decalogue, are a list of religious and moral imperatives that according to religious tradition as recorded in the Bible, were written by God and given to Moses on Mount Sinai in the form of two stone tablets. They feature prominently in Judaism and Christianity.

The phrase "Ten Commandments" generally refers to the very similar passages in Exodus 20:217 and Deuteronomy 5:621. Some distinguish between this "Ethical Decalogue" and a series of ten commandments in Exodus 34 that are labelled the "Ritual Decalogue". This article mainly deals with the former.

The Ten Commandments were the specific terms, or 'words of the covenant' that were written on the Tables of Stone at My Sinai: "He wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments."

Origins
Some historians believe that the Ten Commandments originated from ancient Egyptian religion, and postulate that the Biblical Jews borrowed the concept after their Exodus from Egypt. Chapter 125 of the Book of the Dead (the Papyrus of Ani) includes a list of things to which a man must swear in order to enter the afterlife. These sworn statements bear a remarkable resemblance to the Ten Commandments in their nature and their phrasing. These statements include "not have I defiled the wife of man," "not have I committed murder," "not have I committed theft," "not have I lied," "not have I cursed god," "not have I borne false witness," and "not have I abandoned my parents." The Book of the Dead has additional requirements, and, of course, doesn't require worship of YHWH.

Written in Stone
According to the Bible, God inscribed the Ten Commandments into stone: "God said to Moses, 'Come up to Me, to the mountain, and remain there. I will give you the stone tablets, the Torah and the commandment that I have written for [the people's] instruction.'" (Exodus 24:12) also referred to as "tables of testimony" (Exodus 24:12, 31:18, 32:16) or "tables of the covenant" (Deuteronomy 9verses 9, 11, 15), which he gave to Moses.

Traditional Jewish sources (Mekhilta de Rabbi Ishmael, de-ba-Hodesh 5) discuss the placement of the ten commandments on two tablets. According to Rabbi Hanina ben Gamaliel, five commandments were engraved on the first tablet and five on the other, whereas the Sages contended that ten were written on each.

While most Jewish and Christian depictions follow the first understanding, modern scholarship favors the latter, comparing it to treaty rite in the Ancient Near East, in the sense of tablets of covenant.

Diplomatic treaties, such as that between Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses II and the Hittite King Hattusilis III, circa 1270 B.C.E, were duplicated on stone with a copy for each party, and the subordinate party would place their copy of the pact in the main temple to his god, in oath to the king (cf. Ezekiel 17:11-19). In a pact between a nation and its God, then, the Israelites placed both copies in their temple.

Exodus 32:15 records that the tablets "were written on both their sides."

The Talmud (tractate Shabbat 104a) explains that there were miracles involved with the carving on the tablets. One was that the carving went the full thickness of the tablets.

The letter samec in the Hebrew alphabet looks similar to the letter "O" in the English alphabet. The stone in the center part of the letter should have fallen out, as it was not connected to the rest of the tablet, but it did not; it miraculously remained in place. Secondly, the writing was miraculously legible from both the front and the back, even though logic would dictate that something carved through and through would show the writing in mirror image on the back.

Texts of the Ten Commandments
1. I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

2. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.

3. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them.

4. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

5. Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long.

6. Thou shalt not kill.

7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.

8. Thou shalt not steal.

9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor's.

The Treatment of Jews in Arab Countries

Arabs sometimes claim that, as "Semites," they cannot possibly be anti-Semitic. This, however, is a semantic distortion that ignores the reality of Arab discrimination and hostility toward Jews. Arabs, like any other people, can indeed be anti-Semitic.

The term "anti-Semite" was coined in Germany in 1879 by Wilhelm Marr to refer to the anti-Jewish manifestations of the period and to give Jew-hatred a more scientific sounding name. "Anti-Semitism" has been accepted and understood to mean hatred of the Jewish people.

While Jewish communities in Arab and Islamic countries fared better overall than those in Christian lands in Europe, Jews were no strangers to persecution and humiliation among the Arabs and Muslim. As Princeton University historian Bernard Lewis has written: "The Golden Age of equal rights was a myth, and belief in it was a result, more than a cause, of Jewish sympathy for Islam."

Muhammad, the founder of Islam, traveled to Medina in 622 A.D. to attract followers to his new faith. When the Jews of Medina refused to convert and rejected Muhammad, two of the major Jewish tribes were expelled; in 627, Muhammad's followers killed between 600 and 900 of the men, and divided the surviving Jewish women and children amongst themselves.

The Muslim attitude toward Jews is reflected in various verses throughout the Koran, the holy book of the Islamic faith. "They [the Children of Israel] were consigned to humiliation and wretchedness. They brought the wrath of God upon themselves, and this because they used to deny God's signs and kill His Prophets unjustly and because they disobeyed and were transgressors" (Sura 2:61). According to the Koran, the Jews try to introduce corruption (5:64), have always been disobedient (5:78), and are enemies of Allah, the Prophet and the angels (2:9798).

The Dhimmi
Still, as "People of the Book," Jews (and Christians) are protected under Islamic law. The traditional concept of the "dhimma" ("writ of protection") was extended by Muslim conquerors to Christians and Jews in exchange for their subordination to the Muslims. Peoples subjected to Muslim rule usually had a choice between death and conversion, but Jews and Christians, who adhered to the Scriptures, were allowed as dhimmis (protected persons) to practice their faith. This "protection" did little, however, to insure that Jews and Christians were treated well by the Muslims. On the contrary, an integral aspect of the dhimma was that, being an infidel, he had to openly acknowledge the superiority of the true believer--the Muslim.

In the early years of the Islamic conquest, the "tribute" (or jizya), paid as a yearly poll tax, symbolized the subordination of the dhimmi. Later, the inferior status of Jews and Christians was reinforced through a series of regulations that governed the behavior of the dhimmi. Dhimmis, on pain of death, were forbidden to mock or criticize the Koran, Islam or Muhammad, to proselytize among Muslims or to touch a Muslim woman (though a Muslim man could take a nonMuslim as a wife).

Dhimmis were excluded from public office and armed service, and were forbidden to bear arms. They were not allowed to ride horses or camels, to build synagogues or churches taller than mosques, to construct houses higher than those of Muslims or to drink wine in public. They were not allowed to pray or mourn in loud voices-as that might offend the Muslims. The dhimmi had to show public deference toward Muslims-always yielding them the center of the road. The dhimmi was not allowed to give evidence in court against a Muslim, and his oath was unacceptable in an Islamic court. To defend himself, the dhimmi would have to purchase Muslim witnesses at great expense. This left the dhimmi with little legal recourse when harmed by a Muslim.

Dhimmis were also forced to wear distinctive clothing. In the ninth century, for example, Baghdad's Caliph al-Mutawakkil designated a yellow badge for Jews, setting a precedent that would be followed centuries later in Nazi Germany.

Violence Against Jews
At various times, Jews in Muslim lands were able to live in relative peace and thrive culturally and economically. The position of the Jews was never secure, however, and changes in the political or social climate would often lead to persecution, violence and death. Jews were generally viewed with contempt by their Muslim neighbors; peaceful coexistence between the two groups involved the subordination and degradation of the Jews.

When Jews were perceived as having achieved too comfortable a position in Islamic society, anti-Semitism would surface, often with devastating results: On December 30, 1066, Joseph HaNagid, the Jewish vizier of Granada, Spain, was crucified by an Arab mob that proceeded to raze the Jewish quarter of the city and slaughter its 5,000 inhabitants. The riot was incited by Muslim preachers who had angrily objected to what they saw as inordinate Jewish political power.

Similarly, in 1465, Arab mobs in Fez slaughtered thousands of Jews, leaving only 11 alive, after a Jewish deputy vizier treated a Muslim woman in "an offensive manner." The killings touched off a wave of similar massacres throughout Morocco.

Other mass murders of Jews in Arab lands occurred in Morocco in the 8th century, where whole communities were wiped out by Muslim ruler Idris I; North Africa in the 12th century, where the Almohads either forcibly converted or decimated several communities; Libya in 1785, where Ali Burzi Pasha murdered hundreds of Jews; Algiers, where Jews were massacred in 1805, 1815 and 1830 and Marrakesh, Morocco, where more than 300 hundred Jews were murdered between 1864 and 1880.

Decrees ordering the destruction of synagogues were enacted in Egypt and Syria (1014, 1293-4, 1301-2), Iraq (854-859, 1344) and Yemen (1676). Despite the Koran's prohibition, Jews were forced to convert to Islam or face death in Yemen (1165 and 1678), Morocco (1275, 1465 and 1790-92) and Baghdad (1333 and 1344).(8)

As distinguished Orientalist G.E. von Grunebaum has written:

It would not be difficult to put together the names of a very sizeable number of Jewish subjects or citizens of the Islamic area who have attained to high rank, to power, to great financial influence, to significant and recognized intellectual attainment; and the same could be done for Christians. But it would again not be difficult to compile a lengthy list of persecutions, arbitrary confiscations, attempted forced conversions, or pogroms.
